Hiking

To experience Yosemite to the fullest, taking a hike is your best option. Some of the top areas you should head to are Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point Road, Hetch Hetchy, and White Wolf.  Each of these offers a number of trails as well as wildflower walks. During mid-December and March, you can also go for snowshoe and cross-country trails.

However, while exploring the 800 miles of trails, remember the HIKE SAFE statement to ensure your safety.

Have a plan

Inform someone of where you’re going and when you plan to return

Keep a flashlight and whistle with you

Eat well, stay hydrated: carry plenty of water

Stay on the trail

Ask for HELP!

Familiarize yourself with the area, use a map

Expect changes in the weather

You should also educate yourself on important safety rules and precautions to avoid getting lost or hurt on the trail. The National Park Service advises future visitors to first check the Friends of Yosemite Search and Rescue (YOSAR) site for hiking safety.
